You’ve just landed on the right website!
I’ve gone ahead and found 34 shares that can be bought on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange for less than R10. Just keep in mind that because of the volatility of the market, the prices you see below will be different from what they’re trading for as you read this.

Here’s the best way to get the most out of this article:
- Looking for a particular stock? Simply hit the ‘CTRL’ and ‘F’ keys on your keyboard together to do a quick search. A quick search box will appear on your screen. Type the company you have in mind and if it’s in this article, it should fast track you straight to it.
- Do your research! The price you pay for a stock says nothing about how much it will be worth in the future. To make a good investment decision you’ll need to research a company and determine if the company’s underlying share value is worth more than the ticker price. I highly recommend starting with this article titled “Can Investing In Shares Make You Rich?.” The article will give you realistic expectations, as well as some important research tips for beginner investors.

How To Buy JSE Shares Locally?
Shares are traded on the JSE by registered brokers, that said, individuals investing in shares don’t actually by shares straight on the exchange, instead you need to find a broker that will buy and sell shares for you.
Brokers come in many forms. You could deal with an individual, but the more common route is to trade on an online platform. Which is more than likely the route that you will take.
That said, what’s the best online trading platform that you can get started on?
I’m glad you asked! I researched and reviewed 9 places that you can buy JSE shares online here, so I highly recommend you read that article next if you want to start buying shares.
Want To Buy International Shares?
If you’re looking to buy international shares like coca-cola, Amazon, or even Tesla, then using local brokers simply won’t work.
Local brokers mostly only trade shares for you on the JSE, so to be able to trade international shares you’ll have to open an international trading account.
Thankfully for you, I’ve been through this process and I share how to do it step-by-step (it actually isn’t that difficult if you know the steps.) So make sure you read my article on how you can buy and own American shares in South Africa.
