How To FINALLY Verify FNB Mobile App On Online Banking (FNB Rep)

So you just installed the FNB (First National Bank) mobile app on your mobile device; then you went over to your online banking profile to verify your device, only to find out there’s NO menu option to verify it. If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone; it seems like everyone is having this same annoying issue, including myself. I finally contacted an FNB representative, and here’s how they said you should verify your FNB App.

According to FNB (First National Bank), to verify the FNB App on your mobile device, you need to make a minimum payment of R301 to anyone using the FNB App. Once the payment has been confirmed, the App will automatically verify on your online banking profile after exactly 7 days.

Pretty crazy that they don’t mention this anywhere right? I literally had to scrape it out of the FNB customer service team. It’s almost like they try to pass it off as general knowledge. Here’s the conversation I had with them. Not impressed.

Just to be clear, it seems like you don’t actually need to pay anyone to use the App. FNB just wants to see some kind of transaction on the App you just installed to trigger the verification process. So If you need the money back, I recommend sending the R301 to a family member then ask them to return it.

If you’re not sure how to make a payment using the FNB App then keep reading, I’ll quickly cover that next.

How To Make Payments Using The FNB App

I’m sure by now you would have probably guessed how ‘great’ FNB’s tutorials are. So to make things a bit easier for you, here’s a quick tutorial on how you can make payments on the FNB App.

  1. Log in to your FNB App.
  2. Tap on the hamburger menu at the top left of your screen.
  3. On the drop-down, tap on ‘Payments’
  4. Now tap on ‘Recipients’
  5. Next, tap on ‘Add Recipient’ at the top of your screen.
  6. Tap on ‘Specific Account Details’ to add custom banking details.
  7. Follow the prompts
  8. Once the recipient is added tap on ‘Pay Recipient’

Remember, to verify your FNB App you’ll need to pay a minimum of R301 to your recipient.

  1. This does not always work. If you already have a device or FNB think you do, you cannot make a payment unless the device is verified. You need to get a device that is verified to verify another device, otherwise you cannot make payment.

    1. and this is stupid because devices mean cell phones, and cellphones get lost, stolen or damaged. How then can you use you old device to verify on new device?

  2. This is so stupid of FNB. why don’t they just say you will need to deposit money in the account and transfer it out to have it activated? Making me stress….which is so needless.

  3. This thing is not working i dont have my username and ive called fnb speak to an agent still in in the dark ive downloaded the app thrice and still nothing ..they say i have a online account but I’ve tried everything to get my account but still can’t find it help guts i need this fnb account to start working

  4. I still don’t get it FNB wants confirmation of a transaction being done on the app or on my bank account both are really a stupid notion from FNB because my bank account always has transactions showing(or activity at least) & the banking app regularly gets actions or transactions done on it like buying airtime or checking to see what was deposited into my account or which debit orders did go off so why do they STILL require proof???I think they should change there banking slogan or motto from “FNB….How can we help u” to “FNB….How can we complicate or make your life more difficult”…

  5. This verification process really sucks I can’t make payments immediately, 7 days for what. For all I know you guys are the most technologically advanced bank in SA, but on this app verification process👎 7 days is a no no try to shorten the period please or try other ways of verifying 😓
